Phnom Penh: In the first quarter of 2022, there were 198,182 containers of goods passing through Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, an increase of 16.32% compared to the same period in 2021.

According to the statistics report of the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Sun Chanthol, on 27 April 2022, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port has become a potential strategic location due to the natural suitability for the construction of deep-sea ports, there is a ditch at a distance close to the deep water, which does not require regular pumping.

He added that the master plan for the development of Sihanoukville is a multi-purpose model special economic zone, while the infrastructure of 37 roads in Sihanoukville has been completed and the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is scheduled to be completed soon will also be a driving force for container shipping in Cambodia's seaports.

Sihanoukville Autonomous Port expects that the new container ports, Phase 2 and Expertise 3 will be capable of allowing almost all large container vessels to ship directly from Sihanoukville Port to the Asia Pacific, Europe and the United States there is no need to transfer storage at other ports.
